18-20 Luongo Memorial Square
back to projects
In 2000, PPSRF identified the Luongo Memorial Square as an area in dire need. Located between the Armory District and Broadway, this compact area hosted six abandoned houses. The PPSRF was able to purchase tax title to several properties and found a buyer for the remaining ones. The first building renovated was 18-20 Luongo, at the head of the Square. This burned-out eyesore had been a blight for many years. The PPSRF assisted by preparing State and Federal Tax Credit applications and by making a substantial rehabilitation loan to the new owner, Crescent Partners. The upper floors were transformed into a townhouse apartment and the ground floor was developed as the Decatur Lounge, which has become a popular venue as the neighborhood re-emerges.
